Portobello Mushroom Fries

Portobello Mushroom Fries

I first had portobello fries when I was in a restaurant, Bottega Louie in Downtown Los Angeles. They were very good that I kept thinking about them. Thanks to food blogger Amy from uTry.it. She made an oven version portobello fries, which is even better. Easy and healthy. These fries were tasty and I know that I can make them any time I want now.

These fries are perfect substitute for regular fries. They are healthy, earthy, umami and filling. The flakey panko crust was crispy and light. These fries go so well with the creamy, garlicky and slightly sweet mayonnaise. Everything is just right. And they are super easy to make. Clean, cut, and roll. Put in the oven. Done! These fries are great as a side dish with burgers or steaks. Try this and you won’t be disappointed!

Sweet Potato Polenta

Sweet Potato Polenta

I can’t believe Christmas is next week already. Since Thanksgiving was late this year, there definitely isn’t enough time to buy gifts and bake cookies. We just finished most of the shopping on Sunday. Later this week, I will be baking some more cookies. For Christmas dinner, I still haven’t figured out the menu. Oh man… I better start thinking now.

Back to the polenta, with sweet potatoes in season, I stumbled upon this recipe from Southern Boy Dishes. The polenta was simply amazing. It was thick, creamy and slightly sweet. With the sage and thyme, it was earthy and brought out some complex flavors. If you love polenta, you will absolutely fall in love with this. If you haven’t had polenta before, you are missing out. It is a great side dish and it goes so well with steak and seafood. Give this a try.:)

Roasted Fingerling Potatoes with Rosemary

666B4994

My neighbor has a huge bush of rosemary near his door. It started from a few sprigs to a 3 x 3-feet bush now. My neighbor is nice enough to let me pick use his rosemary. Woo hoo! Free herbs! Ever since then, I am always looking for dishes with rosemary. Roasted potatoes with rosemary is just a classic. And it sounds so much better with the cute and colorful fingerling potatoes. These potatoes go well with the pan seared rib-eye steak that I made last week, or chicken dishes.

Grilled Romaine Caesar Salad

Bored of regular cold salad? Yes, I am not always in the mood for cold salad. As Chinese, I am never used to eating raw and cold veggie all the time. We always cook our vegetables. Steam, broil, stir-fry, or braise. You name it, but just rarely eating them raw. This romaine salad is perfect to bring some warmth in the stomach and some tasty char flavors. The citrus caesar dressing is easy to make and lighter than regular caesar dressing. It didn’t over power the grilled flavors on the lettuce, but gave some freshness to the salad instead. Something new and something different! Hope you will like it!

Southwestern Potato Salad

Bryan loves potato salad, and he always asks me to make some for dinner. I am fine with potato salad, but sometimes, I feel that they are a bit boring. This southwestern potato salad is definitely not simple. It had the smokiness from the chipotle sauce, and it was a bit spicy. It is very different and delicious, which fulfilled both Bryan and me. Forget your regular potato salad, and give this recipe a try!
