Crab Cakes

Bryan and I have discovered the love of crab cakes in recent years. We would always order the crab cakes as appretizer when we are in restaurants. The sad thing is that the crab cakes usually come in two, and they are very small. It is hard to be satisfied. And of course, it is pretty pricey. Now, I have found this very easy crab cake recipe, I can make our own during any time of the years. This recipe can make 8 crab cakes, so Bryan and I don’t have to fight for them anymore. Hmmm….. Lemon Pepper Honey Toast

I found this recipe by watching a Hong Kong cooking TV show. At first, I was a bit hesitated with the combination of the flavors. But it came out to be amazing! The more I eat it, the more I like it. The butter was creamy, sweet, tart, and a pinch of kick from the black pepper. It is the perfect side dish. This recipe is so simple, and you can definitely make ahead. Give it a try.

Chinese New Year: Turnip Cake

Turnip Cake is the one thing that can’t be missed during Chinese New Year! I love that so much that my mom used to make them specific for me while I was in Hong Kong for vacation, even though that was during Christmas! But it doesn’t matter, who doesn’t want turnip cake? Turnip cake is actually made with daikon or Chinese white turnip. Every family has their own recipes. Some use dried mushroom, some use dried ham, and some use salted radish. Everyone makes them differently. This turnip cake recipe is my mom’s recipe. I have been eating this dish for years. If I am in Hong Kong, there is no reason for me to learn how to make turnip cake. Since I am far away from home, I have asked my mom for the recipe. Finally, I made it! And, I am so glad that this is good! My sister said that my turnip cake tastes 90% like mom’s. Bryan asked whether I can make it during other time of the year.
